Our Speakers: The People Behind the Code pt.6

It's always interesting to hear from people who have transitioned into IT from other fields, as they often bring a unique perspective to problem-solving. That’s exactly the case with our next speaker, Sebastian Kupis.

Sebastian started his career as an Electrical Engineer but followed his growing interest in software and automation right into the world of IT. For the past three years, he's been applying his engineering mindset as a Test Automation Engineer, with a focus on creating testing solutions that are not just robust, but also maintainable for the long haul.

From Maintaining to Rebuilding

Many of us in automation have been in this exact situation: you inherit an existing testing library that’s built on a specific tool. It works, but it has its limitations, and you start to wonder if there’s a better way. This is the core of the story Sebastian will be sharing.

His presentation, "My Journey into Custom Robot Framework Development," is a real-world account of this experience.

He'll walk us through the process of working with an established Robot Framework library that was built on a Ranorex driver. But more importantly, he’ll detail the journey of developing a new, more flexible version from the ground up using the Pythonnet library. He'll cover the challenges and limitations of the original solution, the lessons learned from refactoring it, and the design process behind the new library.

If you’ve ever been tasked with improving a legacy automation solution or are curious about bridging the gap between Python and .NET in your testing, this talk will provide some valuable, first-hand insights.
